My first garden salad!

My first salad of the season! Sunny lettuce, oval frilly lettuce and mizuna from little plants that Sachiko gave me a few weeks ago. They are really sweet and strong tasting compared to shop bought lettuce. I'm sitting here eating the leaves with my fingers - no dressing. Yum!

I bought four mini tomato plants, two zucchini and some swiss chard today which I will plant tomorrow. Each plant was only ¥150 yen each so I only need about ten tomatoes and a zucchini off each of them to have made my money back!

This is amazing, I wish I could grow something other than aloe or palm trees..... luck you, you can have herbs, etc on hand anytime.

You can grow them in pots on your balcony! The only thing is that for you, say Feb to about June and then September to November would be good. If you get a deepish pot and put soil with lots of water-keeping properties in it, plus some fertiliser pellets you would certainly be able to grow lettuce, basil etc out there. However, it must be said that I never had much success with pots because I'm a lazy beast and they would dry out....
